The Minister of Finance (General Duties) and Member of Parliament for Rubanda East Constituency, Hon. Henry Musasizi, has been officially nominated by the Electoral Commission to defend his seat in the upcoming January 2026 General Elections.

Hon. Musasizi, who is also the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer, was nominated by Medard Nteziyaremya, the Rubanda District Electoral Commission Registrar, during a ceremony held at Rukiiko Hall in Rubanda Town Council.

Speaking to journalists after his nomination, Musasizi thanked his supporters for their continued trust and reaffirmed his commitment to implementing the NRM Manifesto at the grassroots level.

He outlined five key priorities for his next term if re-elected: Defense and Security – to strengthen peace and stability in the district; Road Infrastructure Development – to improve accessibility across Rubanda’s hilly terrain; Health Sector Improvement – including the completion and full equipping of Rubanda District Hospital; Electricity Expansion – to extend power to unreached areas and support industrial growth; and Poverty Alleviation and Wealth Creation – through government programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM).

Hon. Musasizi noted that about 38% of Rubanda’s population still depend on subsistence farming, limiting household income and productivity. He pledged to intensify efforts to lift families out of poverty by ensuring effective implementation of government livelihood programs.

He also emphasized the importance of security, promising to advocate for a larger national budget for security agencies, saying peace is the foundation for economic growth.

On infrastructure, Musasizi said he would lobby for increased funding for road construction and maintenance, noting that much of the existing road equipment in districts is old and overstretched.

He highlighted several major upcoming projects for Rubanda District, including:

Tarmacking of the Katuna–Muko Road,Tarmacking of the Hamurwa–Keerere–Kanungu Road,Completion of Rubanda District Hospital, and Establishment of the first Rubanda District Technical Institute to equip youth with practical vocational skills.

Addressing the challenge of water scarcity, Musasizi acknowledged that many hilly areas in Rubanda still lack clean and safe water sources. He promised to expand access to safe water to reduce waterborne diseases and improve community health.

He further pledged to improve electricity distribution through the rural electrification program, emphasizing that reliable power supply is crucial for household development and local industrialization.

Hon. Musasizi concluded by reaffirming that his re-election bid is driven by his desire to consolidate peace, deepen service delivery, and uplift household incomes in line with the NRM’s transformational agenda.

“My mission is to ensure that every family in Rubanda enjoys peace, clean water, good roads, reliable power, and better livelihoods,” Musasizi said.
