Evelyn Ninsiima Kikafunda, a well-known environmental conservationist and educationist, has been officially nominated to contest for the position of Woman Member of Parliament for Rubanda District as an independent candidate.

Her nomination was confirmed at 2:00 PM by the Rubanda District Electoral Commission Registrar, Medard Nteziyaremye, during a ceremony attended by many of her supporters, including members of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Speaking to journalists after her nomination, Ninsiima promised to improve access to healthcare in Rubanda, with a strong focus on reducing infant and maternal deaths. She said improving maternal and child health will be one of her top priorities if elected.

She also pledged to support families in boosting their household incomes through livestock projects—such as goats, sheep, pigs, and hens—saying this would help strengthen the government’s Parish Development Model (PDM), which aims to move households from subsistence to commercial farming.

As the director of St. Elizabeth Nursery and Primary School in Bushure, Hamurwa Sub-county, Ninsiima expressed her deep commitment to promoting girl-child education, describing it as the key to empowerment and lasting community transformation.

She criticized some leaders for failing to properly implement social programs under the National Development Plans (NDP I–IV), saying this has slowed progress in improving service delivery and community welfare.

Ninsiima further pledged to be a strong advocate for human rights, sustainable agriculture, and environmental protection. She noted that Rubanda’s mountainous terrain makes it prone to natural disasters, calling for greater public awareness and training on environmental conservation and sustainable farming.

“Real development begins when we invest in the health and education of our people while protecting the environment that sustains us,” Ninsiima said.
