Two Men Found Dead by Hanging in Kabale
Two men have been found dead by hanging in separate incidents in Kabale District, in cases that police suspect to be suicides. The tragic discoveries in Kamuganguzi and Buhara sub-counties have left residents in shock and raised fresh concern about mental health and community support systems in the region. The deceased have been identified as Michael Twesigomwe, a shamba boy from Kabale Municipality, and Benson Twinomuhangi, a resident of Kyambinga village.
According to Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, “both incidents are under investigation to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths.” He added that Twesigomwe is believed to have hanged himself using a rope on an avocado tree in his employer’s compound between March 15 and 16 at an unknown time, while Twinomuhangi was found hanging from a eucalyptus tree using a shirt in a garden. Maate further noted that preliminary information indicates Twinomuhangi had a history of mental health challenges.
Police officers from Kabale Central Police Station visited both scenes, conducted examinations, and postmortem procedures have since been carried out. Authorities have urged the public to seek help and resolve grievances through appropriate channels, emphasizing that taking one’s life does not provide a solution to life’s challenges.
Community leaders and residents are now calling for increased awareness and access to mental health services to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
