Kampala — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Mr. Lino Anguzu as Uganda’s new Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The position fell vacant after the appointment of former DPP Justice Jane Frances Abodo as Principal Judge

Mr. Anguzu, who has been serving as an Assistant DPP, now steps into one of the most powerful positions in Uganda’s criminal justice system — overseeing all public prosecutions and guiding the country’s prosecutorial policy. His elevation is seen as both a recognition of his experience and a continuation of institutional stability within the Office of the DPP.

Sources indicate that President Museveni has already forwarded Mr. Anguzu’s name to Parliament’s Appointments Committee for vetting and approval. Once confirmed, Anguzu will become the chief prosecutor responsible for ensuring that justice is served in all criminal cases on behalf of the state.

Justice Jane Frances Abodo, whom Mr. Anguzu replaces, made history as one of Uganda’s youngest DPPs and has been widely credited for strengthening the efficiency and integrity of the office. Her promotion to Principal Judge earlier this month created the vacancy that Anguzu is now poised to fill.

If approved by Parliament, Mr. Anguzu will take office at a time when Uganda continues to battle rising cases of corruption, cybercrime, and gender-based violence — areas the DPP’s office has pledged to address with renewed vigor.
