Kabale: The Member of Parliament for Kabale Municipality, Hon. Dr. Nicholas Kamara, has paid glowing tribute to the late Rt. Rev. Charles Martin Wamika, the Bishop Ordinary of the Diocese of Jinja, who passed away on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at 4:00 p.m.

Hon. Kamara made the remarks on Saturday while addressing Christians moments after 487 candidates were confirmed into the Catholic Church at Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral by the Bishop of Kabale Diocese, Rt. Rev. Callist Rubaramira.

In his message, Kamara described the late Bishop Wamika as a devoted servant of God whose ministry greatly contributed to the growth of the Catholic faith in Uganda.

He also used the occasion to urge young people, especially girls, to resist early marriages, drug abuse, alcoholism, and peer pressure, warning that such habits can destroy their dreams and potential.

“Young people must stay focused on their education and values. Early marriages and drug abuse only derail your future,” Kamara said.

The legislator also cautioned against betting, describing it as a “game for the rich” that offers no meaningful profit.

“I have never seen a successful person who became rich through betting,” he added.

Kamara further commended Bishop Rubaramira for encouraging parents to support their children in starting small income-generating projects such as farming, animal rearing, and vegetable growing, saying such ventures help learners meet their basic needs and develop a spirit of self-reliance.

During the confirmation ceremony, Rev. Fr. Austen Christmas, the Parish Priest of Rushoroza Cathedral, congratulated the newly confirmed Christians, describing them as a blessing to the Church. He urged parents to make the confirmation day memorable for their children as a symbol of their spiritual growth and commitment to faith.
