UPDF 2 Infantry Division Strengthens Fitness and Cohesion Through 30km Route March in Mbarara
Mbarara City, Saturday, 25th October 2025
The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 2 Infantry Division on Saturday conducted a 30-kilometre route march through Mbarara City, in a spirited exercise aimed at enhancing physical fitness, teamwork, and combat readiness. The march was led by the Division Commander, Maj Gen Paul Muhanguzi, and attracted hundreds of officers and militants.
The exercise began at the Division Headquarters and saw participants move through designated routes within and around Mbarara City, drawing the attention of residents who watched the disciplined formations with admiration.
Before setting off, Maj Gen Muhanguzi addressed the troops at the Division Headquarters playground, underscoring the importance of maintaining peak physical fitness as a cornerstone of military preparedness.

“The purpose of this route march is to assess troop and combat readiness,” Maj Gen Muhanguzi said. “We regularly conduct such exercises as part of our routine military training to ensure that every officer and militant remains fit, alert, and mission-ready.”
He further emphasized that beyond physical endurance, such exercises strengthen teamwork, unity of purpose, and cohesion—key attributes that define the UPDF’s effectiveness in both peace and wartime operations.
The route march is part of the Division’s ongoing efforts to enhance discipline, morale, and operational efficiency across all its units.
