Kyanamira, Kabale District — Christians have been urged to open their hearts to the Word of God and allow it to transform their lives through faith, prayer, and obedience to God’s will.

Delivering his homily during the Sunday morning Mass at St. Francis Kyanamira Parish, the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Armel Somda (M.Afr), said God’s Word is living and powerful, accomplishing the purpose for which it is sent and bringing hope to those who receive it with sincere hearts.

Reflecting on the first reading from the Book of Isaiah, Fr. Somda explained that just as rain and snow nourish the earth and make it fruitful, God’s Word never returns empty but fulfills His divine mission by transforming the lives of believers.

“The Word of God always comes with a mission. It speaks to our hearts, transforms our lives and gives us hope,” he told the congregation.

He encouraged Christians to cultivate a consistent prayer life, saying that daily prayer enables believers to surrender themselves to God and become more receptive to His guidance and grace.

Basing his homily on the Gospel according to Matthew and the Parable of the Sower, Fr. Somda explained that the seed represents the Word of God, while the different types of soil symbolize the different ways people receive God’s message.

He said the fertile soil represents those who listen attentively to the Word of God, understand it, and put it into practice, enabling them to bear abundant spiritual fruit through faith and perseverance.

Fr. Somda warned that the rocky ground symbolizes believers who initially receive God’s Word with joy but lose hope and abandon their faith when faced with difficulties, suffering, or persecution because the message has not taken deep root in their hearts.

He challenged the faithful to examine themselves by asking whether they truly listen to God’s Word and allow it to change their attitudes, decisions, and way of life.

The priest further urged Christians to pray for the wisdom to identify and overcome the distractions that prevent them from faithfully living according to God’s Word.

Concluding his homily, Fr. Somda reminded the congregation that God’s Word is true, never fails, and remains the source of hope, peace, and lasting joy for all who faithfully live by it.

Rev. Fr. Armel Somda is a member of the Missionaries of Africa (M.Afr), also known as the White Fathers, and hails from Burkina Faso. Since beginning his missionary ministry in Uganda in 2019, he has served in the Dioceses of Soroti, Moroto, and Kabale. He currently serves as the Parish Priest of St. Francis Kyanamira Parish, where he continues his mission of evangelization, pastoral care, and spiritual formation of the faithful.
