MACRO HARDWARE BOSS DONATES 100 BAGS OF CEMENT, SPORTS EQUIPMENT TO ST. MARY’S COLLEGE RUSHOROZA
KABALE — St. Mary’s College Rushoroza received a major boost towards its infrastructure development and sports programme after Macro Hardware Executive Director, Engineer Joram Bwambale Macro, donated 100 bags of cement and a range of sports equipment during the school’s annual sports day on Saturday.
The donation included 100 bags of cement to support the ongoing construction works at the school, 20 footballs, jerseys for teachers, and separate sets of jerseys for both the boys’ and girls’ teams.
Eng. Bwambale Macro, who was the guest of honour at the event held at the school’s sports grounds on Rushoroza Hill in Southern Division, Kabale Municipality, said he was inspired by the school’s outstanding record in both academics and sports.
Speaking to students, parents, teachers and invited guests, Bwambale Macro praised St. Mary’s College Rushoroza for proving that academic excellence and talent development can go hand in hand.

”I have always admired this school because it is among the few institutions that excel academically while at the same time nurturing students’ talents,” he said.
He encouraged learners to embrace sports, describing talent as one of the greatest assets that can transform lives.
”Some of the highest-paid professionals in the world are talented sports personalities such as footballers, athletes and many others. Talent, when nurtured well, can open doors to success,” he noted.
Macro also dismissed the long-held belief that students who actively participate in sports perform poorly in class.
”The stereotype that sportsmen and sportswomen cannot excel academically is wrong. A healthy body supports a healthy mind. Many students who balance sports with academics perform exceptionally well in class,” he said.
He pledged to continue investing in sports development across Kigezi and Uganda, saying sports play a critical role in building discipline, leadership, teamwork and healthy lifestyles among young people.
The businessman is already known for supporting sports in the region, including sponsorship of Kigezi HomeBoyz, one of the leading football clubs competing at the national level.
St. Mary’s College Rushoroza Headteacher, Christopher Monday, thanked Eng. Bwambale Macro for his generous support, describing the donation as timely and impactful.
He said the school has consistently promoted sports alongside academics, enabling learners to compete successfully at national level while maintaining excellent academic standards.
”Our school has participated in national ball games and has been among the best-performing institutions. Because of our commitment to sports, we have also had the privilege of hosting national competitions,” Monday said.
He noted that the school has deliberately promoted gender equality in sports, giving girls equal opportunities to participate and excel.
”Our girls have embraced sports with confidence, and in several competitions they have even outperformed the boys. We believe every learner deserves an equal opportunity to discover and develop their talent,” he added.
Despite being widely recognised for producing outstanding academic results, Monday said the school remains committed to nurturing all-round students, many of whom have gone on to represent Uganda in different sporting disciplines.
The sports day concluded with Eng. Bwambale presiding over the prize-giving ceremony, where winning houses and outstanding participants received awards.
The overall standings saw Green House emerge champions with 636 points, followed by White House with 539 points. Red House finished third with 500 points, while Orange and Blue Houses tied in fourth place with 409 points each. Purple House came sixth with 333 points.
One of the most celebrated participants was Katembeka Grolia, the school’s Director of Studies and current President of the Lions Club of Kabale, who took part in all the teachers’ sporting activities, earning admiration from students and fellow staff.
The colourful event attracted hundreds of students, parents, alumni and community members, reinforcing St. Mary’s College Rushoroza’s growing reputation as an institution that values both academic excellence and holistic student development.
