Breaking News .State Minister Ecweru Withdraws from 2026 Parliamentary Race to Promote Party Unity
The State Minister for Works (in charge of Roads) and Member of Parliament for Amuria County, Hon. Musa Francis Ecweru, has withdrawn from the 2026 parliamentary race. This development comes shortly after he was nominated as an independent candidate, following his loss in the NRM party primaries.
Hon. Ecweru announced his decision on Tuesday, stating that his withdrawal is aimed at promoting unity and harmony within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party and the wider Amuria community.
He noted that although he had secured nomination as an independent, continuing the race would fuel political division among supporters.
“I have decided to step down from the 2026 parliamentary contest for the sake of peace and cohesion within our party and community. I believe unity is more important than personal political ambition,” Ecweru said.
His withdrawal is expected to ease ongoing tensions that had emerged after the primaries, where supporters from opposing camps clashed in the aftermath of the results.
NRM leaders in the district have welcomed the decision, describing it as a gesture of statesmanship aimed at strengthening party structures ahead of the general elections.
Further details regarding Ecweru’s future political plans and his continued role in government are yet to be communicated.
