NRM flag bearer for Ishaka–Bushenyi Municipality, Hajji Iddi Bassajabalaba, has temporarily suspended his campaign activities following the death of his grandmother, who passed away in Germany on Monday.

Speaking to journalists, Hajji Iddi expressed deep sorrow, noting that his grandmother played a central parental role in his life.

“Personally, I lost my grandmother and she has been my parent since my birth. We are now trying to organize her burial. That is why I have suspended my campaigns until further notice,” he stated.

“The reason I say further notice is because the process of transferring a body from Europe to Africa is very hectic. Once we complete the burial, we shall resume the campaigns,” he added.

A number of dignitaries and supporters have visited his family home to offer condolences. Among those present include the Minister for Internal Affairs Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire and Igara East Member of Parliament Hon. Michael Mawanda Maranga.

Arrangements to repatriate the body from Germany are currently underway.
