Mbarara, Uganda – National Unity Platform (NUP) Party President Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, on Friday officially opened the Western Regional offices of NUP along independence park-independence arena. The move marks a major step in the party’s efforts to consolidate its national presence and strengthen political unity across Uganda.

In his address, Kyagulanyi expressed gratitude for the progress made so far, despite the limited resources available to the party. He added that the Western offices represent a critical shift towards NUP’s larger goals of instilling unity and fighting corruption across the country. He emphasized that Uganda’s mineral wealth, which he claims has been exploited by the corrupt elite, could be better managed if the right leadership were in place.

“Uganda is still a rich country with minerals,” Kyagulanyi stated. “But the corrupt have exploited them for too long. We shall save this country when we are elected into power.”

Kyagulanyi also addressed that  the party’s strategy is to build a solid foundation from the ground up. While the party continues to expand regionally, he noted that the Western Regional office is part of NUP’s broader plan to create spaces for political engagement, with the aim of fostering unity across all regions of the country, from the West to the North.

The NUP President also shared his belief that the new office space will be key to the party’s long-term success. “For the little resources we have as a party, we have managed to build the best political office in Uganda,” he said. “This office is not just for NUP; it’s a space for the people to come, meet, discuss, and strategize.”

The opening of the Western Regional office also marks a historic moment for NUP, as it is the first political party in Uganda to own a large, dedicated office space. This contrasts sharply with their previous reliance on rented, smaller spaces.

Katebire Derrick, Kabale NUP Chairperson and aspiring Division Chairman of Kabale Central Division, shared his excitement about the new office. He highlighted how previous regional offices, which were often small and difficult to identify, had not been conducive for party activities. The new office, he said, is a testament to the party’s commitment to stay and build a lasting political presence in Uganda.

“Previously, we had regional offices that were small and rented,” Derrick explained. “But now we have a permanent office that people can easily identify. This office is a sign that NUP is here to stay for the long term.”

Additionally, Katebire said that the larger office spaces are expected to help NUP better organize and mobilize support across the region. The party also aims to expand its network of regional offices, including in the Northern Region of Uganda, which Kyagulanyi mentioned is still in the planning stages.

Katebire further explained that the new office isn’t just about space—it’s about showing the public that the party is serious about providing a platform for Ugandans to engage in meaningful political discourse. With greater visibility and accessibility, NUP expects a surge in grassroots support.

As NUP continues to grow and expand its reach across Uganda, this development may mark the beginning of a more sustained and organized political movement in the country.
