A total of 46 candidates have so far been nominated to contest for Kampala District’s parliamentary seats ahead of the 2026 general elections, according to the Electoral Returning Officer, Mr. Rashid Hasakya.

Out of the total, 44 candidates are vying for direct representation across Kampala’s five divisions, while two candidates have been nominated to contest for the Kampala District Woman Member of Parliament seat.

Mr. Hasakya noted that the largest number of nominations came from Makindye and Kampala Central divisions, which also attracted several notable contenders.

Among those duly nominated is Hon. Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, who will be contesting to represent the people of Kira Municipality for a fourth consecutive term.

Speaking after his nomination, Hon. Ssemujju emphasized the importance of electing competent leaders to Parliament, saying that the role of a Member of Parliament revolves around four key responsibilities, all of which he believes he has effectively fulfilled during his tenure.

“I want to remind Ugandans not to send poor legislators to Parliament,” Ssemujju said. “When you do, it eventually affects you through poor services — no medicine in hospitals, a weak education system, and other challenges that result from poor legislation and oversight.”

Nominations are expected to continue through the week as more candidates line up to seek the people’s mandate in Kampala and across the country.
