The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) today began the recruitment exercise for shortlisted candidates from Kigezi and Ankole sub-regions, with the process taking place at Kabale Municipal Stadium.

‎The exercise started in the morning and attracted candidates from Kabale, Rubanda and Rukiga districts, who were the first to be screened.

‎Major Edward Birungi, the information officer for the UPDF recruitment team covering Kigezi and Ankole, said the exercise is being conducted under the leadership of Major General James Kasule.

‎Birungi said a number of candidates were disqualified during the screening process due to visual impairment, scars on the body, medical conditions and skin infections such as ringworm.

‎He added that some people who had not been shortlisted also turned up at the recruitment centre but were turned away.

‎According to Birungi, the recruitment team will continue the exercise tomorrow in Kisoro District before extending it to Rukungiri, Kanungu and other districts in the Ankole sub-region.

‎The UPDF recruitment exercise is part of the force’s ongoing nationwide recruitment programme aimed at enlisting qualified Ugandans into military service. Candidates are undergoing verification of documents, medical examination and physical assessment before final selection.
