Several Pay Tribute to the Late Col. Anthony Kyakabale, a Patriot and Brave Soldier
Several mourners on Sunday paid glowing tribute to the late Retired Colonel Anthony Kyakabale for his patriotism, bravery, and dedication to his country during a heartfelt prayer service held at Kitanga Parish Church in Rukiga District.
The mass, led by Fr. Marius Byamukama, the Parish Priest Kitanga Parish, brought together friends, relatives, community members, and representatives from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) to honor the life and legacy of the fallen soldier.
Col. Anthony Kyakabale, who passed away in Sweden on October 5, 2025, after a long illness, was remembered as a freedom fighter and committed nationalist. He played a key role in the National Resistance Army (NRA) liberation struggles of the 1980s before later going into exile following political disagreements.
During mass, Rukiga Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Zadock Kamusiime described the late Kyakabale as “a strong and patriotic man who loved his country deeply.” Kamusiime, who once fought alongside him during the Rwanda liberation war, called him “a courageous and disciplined soldier whose legacy will live on.”
Fr. Gaetano Batanyenda, urged mourners to follow the example of the deceased, noting that he had been a close friend and a man of integrity.
More tributes came from Lt Col (Rtd) Vincent Tumwesigye and Col (Rtd) Joram Bashaija, both of whom served with the late Kyakabale. They described him as a dedicated officer who loved Uganda and always stood firm for justice and national unity.
Speaking with emotion, Mrs. Patience Kyakabale, the widow of the deceased, shared that although her husband had spent his later years in Sweden, it was his final wish to be buried in his homeland of Rukiga, where his life’s journey began.
The late Col. Anthony Kyakabale will be laid to rest on Monday, November 3, 2025, at Rushebeya, Rwamucucu Sub-county, Rukiga District, as family, friends, and fellow citizens gather to celebrate the life of a true patriot and gallant soldier.
