Eleven Inmates Sit for Primary Leaving Examinations in Kabale
Kabale, Uganda – Ten inmates from Ndorwa Government Prison have joined thousands of other candidates across Kabale District to sit for this year’s Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) at Kikungiri Primary School.
According to Phabis Twasingwire, the head teacher of Kikungiri Primary School, twelve inmates from Ndorwa Prison had registered to sit for the exams at the center. However, one of them was released after winning a court case before the exams began, while another, who was underage, was transferred to Kabale Remand Home where he also sat for the examinations.
“The inmates have successfully completed the morning Mathematics paper and will sit for Social Studies in the afternoon,” Ms. Twasingwire said.
Munyambabazi Grace, the Principal Education Officer for Kabale Municipal Council, noted that a total of 1,901 candidates across the municipality were sitting for the exams this year. She commended the effort made to include all learners, including inmates and children with special needs, in the national exercise.
“We ensured that all candidates, including those from special needs schools such as Hornby Junior and St. Maria Theresa, as well as the inmates, were well-prepared and supported with invigilators and scouts to monitor the process,” Ms. Munyambabazi said.
Wilberforce Nabaasa, the Kabale District Inspector of Schools, reported that 3,467 candidates were registered for the PLE under Kabale District Local Government. These candidates are drawn from 113 primary schools across 82 sitting centers.
He expressed optimism that the examinations would be conducted smoothly and that the district would post improved results this year.
