During a visit to Ibanda yesterday , President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni reflected on the progress of security and development in western Uganda, emphasizing the importance of peace as the foundation for growth.

President Museveni recounted the challenges the region faced in the past, noting that communities in Ibanda and surrounding areas were once disturbed by ADF rebels from the Kamwenge forest. He praised the collaboration between the army and local communities, which successfully defeated the insurgents and restored lasting security. “This peace is the foundation for all development,” he remarked.

The President also outlined several infrastructure and economic initiatives aimed at improving connectivity and supporting livelihoods in the region. Among the key projects, he announced plans to reconstruct the Ibanda–Kagongo–Kabujogera–Kamwenge road and conduct feasibility studies for improvements on the Nyamarebe–Kyegegwa road, enhancing trade and mobility for local residents.

To facilitate the movement of livestock and agricultural products, President Museveni further revealed plans to establish a ferry on Lake George, which would ease the transfer of cattle from Ibanda to Kasese. Additionally, he emphasized support for farmers to build and strengthen their livelihoods through targeted interventions.

The President’s speech underscored the government’s focus on linking security, infrastructure, and economic development as key pillars for sustainable growth in Ibanda and the wider western region.
