Uganda is set for a crucial presidential debate tonight at 8 p.m. on NTV, where seven candidates will face off to present their visions for the country. Unfortunately, incumbent President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni won’t be attending, citing lack of prior notice about the event.

The debate features prominent candidates like Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) of the National Unity Platform (NUP), who has confirmed his attendance and vowed to challenge Museveni’s record. Other candidates include Nathan Nandala Mafabi of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), focusing on institutional accountability and transparent governance; Mugisha Muntu of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), promising stability without incumbency fatigue; Elton Joseph Mabirizi of the Conservative Party (CP), advocating for reducing government size and ministerial positions; Robert Kasibante of the National Peasants Party (NPP), pushing for agrarian reforms and rural development; Mubarak Munyagwa Sserunga of the Common Man’s Party (CMP), seeking constitutional reforms and civil liberties protections; and Frank Kabinga Bulira of the Revolutionary People’s Party (RPP), calling for systemic reforms ¹ ² ³.

These candidates are expected to discuss key issues like governance, economic recovery, youth employment, security, and Uganda’s political trajectory. The debate aims to provide voters with a platform to assess the candidates’ visions and policies
