Muntu Condemns Electoral Process, Accuses Ruling Party of Deception
The former Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) presidential candidate, Gen Gregory Mugisha Muntu, has strongly criticized the country’s electoral process, describing it as “captured, manipulated, and a complete mess,” while accusing the ruling National Resistance Movement [NRM} of promoting lies and deception.
Speaking on Monday at Heras Country Resort in Kabale during a meeting with regional coordinators and candidates who participated in the electoral process, Gen Muntu said the leadership of the ruling party had forgotten the country’s painful history and allowed the nation to move backwards instead of progressing.
“The leaders in the ruling party have lost memory of our past history, and the country has completely gone backwards,” he said.
He alleged that the government had continued a culture of deception that dates back to 1962, adding that despite the frustrations among citizens, many people still hold hope that meaningful change will happen one day.
“This government has continued with a culture of lies and deception. But the people still believe that one day change will come,” he stated.
He further noted that many citizens and political actors had fought against similar injustices during previous regimes, but expressed disappointment that the same problems continue to exist today.
“We fought against the same injustice in the previous regime, but nothing has changed,” Muntu added.
Gen Muntu also criticized leaders whom he accused of repeating the same mistakes that had harmed the country in the past. In a strongly worded statement, he said those responsible for the injustices had either forgotten history or failed to learn from it.
He condemned public officials accused of misusing taxpayers’ money, reminding leaders that they are servants of the people and must govern responsibly and transparently.
“Leaders who misuse people’s taxes must remember that they are servants of the people and they must serve the people,” he said.
He concluded by calling on citizens to rise up against injustice and openly condemn leaders involved in corruption, manipulation, and abuse of power.
“The population must wake up and condemn the injustice that some leaders are involved in,” he said.
