Kabale, Uganda – State Minister for General Duties in the Ministry of Finance, Hon. Henry Musasizi, has expressed confidence that President Yoweri Museveni will receive overwhelming support from the Kigezi region in the upcoming elections.
Speaking on Saturday during the ordination ceremony of eight deacons into priesthood at Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral Parish Grounds in Kabale, Minister Musasizi noted that although President Museveni is currently traversing other regions of the country for campaign engagements, he is expected to visit the western region, including Kigezi, next month.
Musasizi emphasized that the next term of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government will focus on eradicating household poverty through initiatives such as the Parish Development Model, Emyooga, and other economic empowerment programs.
“We are targeting the 33% of Ugandans who still work just to feed themselves. This must change,” he said.
He also stated that the government will prioritize road maintenance by increasing funding allocations to infrastructure development. In addition, he reaffirmed that health and education will remain key areas of focus.
“Upgrading more towns into cities is not our immediate priority. For now, we are focusing on essential services like roads and hospitals,” the minister added.
Musasizi revealed that the cost of running government operations stands at UGX 14 trillion, with UGX 11.3 trillion currently allocated to debt servicing. He said this financial situation demands careful prioritization of government programs.
The ordination ceremony was presided over by Rt. Rev. Callist Rubaramira, Bishop of Kabale Diocese, who praised the newly ordained priests for their perseverance. He noted that some of them had waited up to six years due to internal challenges within their congregation.

“I thank the priests for their endurance and urge them to always remain open to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, wherever they are posted,” Bishop Rubaramira said.
The eight new priests were ordained under the Apostles of Jesus congregation.
