Kabale, Uganda — The State Minister of Finance in charge of General Duties, Hon. Henry Musasizi, on Friday presided over the 10th Graduation Ceremony of Kabale University, where he outlined key sectors driving Uganda’s economic transformation.

Hon. Musasizi, who served as the chief guest at the ceremony — the university’s tenth since attaining public status — congratulated the graduates and urged them to play an active role in shaping the country’s economic future.

In his address, the Minister emphasized the government’s focus on agro-industrialization, tourism development, mineral-based industrialization, and technology and innovation as the main engines of Uganda’s growth.

“Our focus is to build a self-sustaining economy driven by innovation, value addition, and industrialization. The graduates of today are an integral part of this journey,” he said.

This year’s graduation ceremony saw 1,673 graduands receive degrees, diplomas, and certificates across multiple disciplines. Among them were 151 Master’s degree recipients, 7 PhD awardees, and numerous Bachelor’s degree graduates in fields such as ICT, medicine, education, business, and engineering.

Hon. Musasizi commended the graduates for their hard work and perseverance, encouraging them to use their education to drive innovation and contribute to Uganda’s development.

“May your academic achievements be a stepping stone to a brighter future. I wish you all success in your endeavors,” he added.

Kabale University’s recent achievements were also highlighted, including the Kabale University School of Medicine’s victory in the African Inter-University Medical Quiz Competition — a feat the Minister described as proof of the institution’s growing regional and continental reputation. The university currently ranks sixth nationally among Ugandan higher education institutions.

Despite its progress, Kabale University still faces challenges, particularly limited land for expansion. However, university officials expressed optimism that additional land will soon be acquired to support infrastructure growth and accommodate more students.

The colorful event was attended by several distinguished guests, including the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda, Prof. August Niwagaba, and the Resident Judge of the Kabale High Court Circuit, Justice Karoli Lwanga Ssemogerere, who served as the guest speaker. The ceremony also drew professors, political leaders, and parents from across the Kigezi sub-region, all gathered to celebrate the graduates’ accomplishments.

As Kabale University celebrated a decade of graduations, the event reaffirmed its commitment to producing skilled, innovative, and responsible citizens dedicated to advancing Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.
