Kabale MP Kamara and Bishop Rubaramira Urge Youth to Make Holidays Productive
Kabale, Uganda — As the holiday season approaches, Kabale District MP Hon. Kamara, along with Rt. Rev. Callist Rubaramira, Bishop of Kabale Diocese, have urged holiday-makers, especially young people, to use their time off in a way that adds value to their lives and communities.
Speaking during the first mass at Christ the King Church in Kabale Municipality on Sunday, Kamara encouraged the youth to go beyond leisure and engage in activities that could lead to financial independence. “The holiday season is a great time to rest, but it’s also an opportunity to learn new skills, start small businesses, or engage in agricultural projects,” Kamara said. He pointed to sectors like vegetable farming, poultry, and fish farming as promising areas for income generation, as well as local trades such as tailoring, carpentry, and crafts.
Kamara emphasized the importance of building a culture of self-reliance, urging young people to use their skills or learn new ones to contribute to a more sustainable local economy. “We have untapped potential right here in Kabale,” he added.
Earlier, Bishop Rubaramira also shared a similar message at a recent confirmation ceremony for Christians at Christ the King Parish and Rushoroza Parish. In his address, the Bishop stressed the role of parents in supporting their children to engage in productive activities, particularly in agriculture. He explained that such ventures would help children develop a sense of responsibility and self-reliance, enabling them to buy their own essentials like books, pens, and clothes. Reflecting on his own experience, the Bishop recalled how he and his peers worked during their school years to earn small amounts to support themselves, leaving the larger burdens to their parents.
“Parents should guide their children in taking responsibility for their own needs,” Bishop Rubaramira said. “Supporting them in ventures like farming can motivate them to work hard and become self-sufficient.”
