Hon. Wilfred Niwagaba Launches Project to Empower Boda Boda Riders as He Kicks Off 2026 Re-Election Campaign
KABALE – The Member of Parliament for Ndorwa East Constituency, Hon. Wilfred Niwagaba, has unveiled plans to launch a transformative project aimed at empowering Boda Boda riders who currently do not own the motorcycles they ride.
Speaking during the official launch of his 2026 re-election campaign at Bugomora Primary School in Nyabushabi Parish, Kyanamira Sub-county, Hon. Niwagaba said the project’s first phase will support 400 riders to acquire motorcycles through a savings and top-up model.
The initiative, he explained, will enable riders to form associations, undergo financial literacy training, and benefit from top-up funds to help them purchase motorcycles. “We want every Boda Boda rider to have a sense of ownership and stability,” he said. “This project will not only uplift individual riders but also strengthen their cooperatives and promote responsible saving habits.”
Hon. Niwagaba revealed that he has already partnered with Lyamujungu SACCO to facilitate the program, ensuring that every participating rider can eventually own a motorcycle. The project will target 100 riders from each of the four Sub-counties in Ndorwa East, with 13 motorcycles allocated annually to each Sub-county.
Beyond the empowerment of riders, Hon. Niwagaba encouraged residents to embrace cash crop farming, particularly Arabica coffee and avocados, as a pathway to sustainable income and poverty reduction. “Growing high-value crops like coffee and avocados can help households access a steady cash flow and lift themselves out of poverty,” he emphasized.
He also called on the youth to take advantage of employment opportunities in agriculture and manufacturing, reminding them that income from agriculture is tax-free and can offer a reliable livelihood if well managed.
During the event, several residents commended the legislator for his ongoing efforts to improve the lives of people in Ndorwa East. Twine Protaz, a resident of Kitibya in Kyanamira Sub-county, hailed Hon. Niwagaba for his achievements in promoting education, improving road infrastructure, advocating for better health services, and supporting agriculture.
Similarly, Byomuhangi Amos from Nyabushabi Parish expressed gratitude for the MP’s continued support towards agriculture through the distribution of hoes and other farming tools, and for his contribution to the construction of St. James Church of Uganda, Nyamwerambiko. He also appealed to voters to remain steadfast and avoid being swayed by Niwagaba’s political rivals, emphasizing that true leadership comes from commitment and residence within the constituency.
