‎Residents of Nyamabale Village in Kitumba Sub-county, Kabale District, are living in fear and shock following the alleged murder of a 52-year-old woman by her own son.

‎The deceased, Kyarimpa Mary, a resident of Nyamabale Cell, Bushuro Parish, was reportedly assaulted on Monday night by her biological son, Byomuhangi Hebert

‎According to local leaders, the tragic incident occurred at around 9:00 p.m. The suspect allegedly attacked his mother and later locked his father inside the house before fleeing. Police from Kitumba and Kabale Central Police Station responded to the scene and transported the body for a postmortem examination.

‎Nyakire John, Chairperson LCII of Bushuro Parish, said the suspect had previously been accused of violent behavior toward his parents and had allegedly been involved in theft and other criminal activities that had terrorized the village.

‎“He had been beating his parents, and we had already reported the matter to higher authorities at Kitumba Sub-county. The community has been living in fear because of his conduct,” Nyakire said.

‎The killing has renewed concerns about insecurity in Nyamabale Village. Residents also recalled other unresolved murder cases in the area, including the killing of a man whose head was reportedly severed and another man who was found dead near Nyamabale Catholic Church.

‎Nyakire further alleged that some villagers have questioned the leadership of Gerald Byampaka, the LC1 Chairperson of Nyamabale Cell, accusing him of failing to address criminal activities in the area. He called upon district authorities and security agencies to intervene and restore public confidence.

‎During a requiem mass held on Thursday at Nyamabale Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. Maniragaba Garasiano of Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral Parish urged parents and community leaders to take responsibility for guiding young people.

‎He warned that indiscipline, alcoholism, and criminal behavior were bringing shame to families and the wider community.

‎“Leaders must protect the people and fulfill their responsibilities. Communities should work with higher authorities to seek lasting solutions and better leadership where necessary,” Fr. Maniragaba said.

‎Confirming the incident, SP Nelson Tumushime, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, said police had arrested Byomuhangi Hebert in connection with the murder.

“Police at Kabale CPS have arrested Byomuhangi Hebert for allegedly murdering his biological mother in Kabale District. It is alleged that the suspect assaulted his mother at about 2100 hours, leading to her death. Investigations are ongoing,” Tumushime said.

‎The incident has left Nyamabale residents mourning and demanding stronger security measures as police continue with investigations into the murder and other unresolved crimes in the area.
