Former St. Gertrude’s Girls’ Vocational Secondary School Headteacher Sr. Vastina Nagasanzwe Passes On
The Catholic Church is engulfed in grief following the passing of Sr. Vastina Nagasanzwe, the former headteacher of St. Gertrude’s Girls’ Vocational Secondary School in Kisoro district whose life was dedicated to service, education, and faith.
The sad news was announced on March 23, 2026, by the leadership of the Sisters of Our Lady of Good Counsel of Mbarara. Sr. Vastina breathed her last earlier that day, leaving behind a legacy that has deeply impacted generations of young women and the wider community.
Born in Mutolere Parish, Sr. Vastina answered the call to religious life at a young age. Her journey as a nun was closely tied to her passion for education, where she became a guiding light to many. During her time as headteacher of St. Gertrude’s Girls, she was known for her discipline, kindness, and strong moral leadership.
Under her stewardship, the school became not just a center for academic learning, but a place where character was molded. She encouraged her students to pursue excellence while staying grounded in faith and values. Many of her former students credit her for shaping their futures and instilling confidence in them.
Colleagues remember her as a humble yet firm leader who led by example. She believed in service above self and worked tirelessly to ensure that every girl under her care had an opportunity to succeed.
As the community mourns her passing, preparations are underway to lay her to rest on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at the Kyabirukwa Motherhouse at midday.
Though Sr. Vastina is no longer with us, her spirit lives on in the lives she touched. Her legacy remains a testament to a life well lived—one of faith, dedication, and love for humanity.
