Early Dental Treatment Key to Preventing Serious Oral Health Problems – Dr. Kukundakwe
KABALE: A senior dental consultant, Dr. Davis Kukundakwe of Modern Dental Clinic, located along the Kabale–Katuna Road near St. Ignatius University, has urged the public to seek early dental treatment to prevent minor tooth problems from developing into serious conditions that may require extraction.
Speaking to Light News Network, Dr. Kukundakwe said many people delay seeking professional dental care until their teeth are severely damaged, yet many of the affected teeth could have been saved through early diagnosis and treatment.
He also cautioned members of the public against seeking treatment from unprofessional or profit-driven practitioners who prioritize money over quality healthcare. According to Dr. Kukundakwe, dental procedures such as tooth fillings (cementing) should be carried out honestly, professionally, and according to accepted medical standards to avoid complications for patients.
Dr. Kukundakwe called on the government, health authorities, and other stakeholders to strengthen public awareness campaigns on oral health. He emphasized that increased health education and community sensitization would encourage people to seek timely dental care and adopt good oral hygiene practices.
He appealed to the relevant authorities to work hand in hand with healthcare providers in educating communities about the importance of regular dental check-ups and preventive care.
Dr. Kukundakwe, who previously worked at Rugaya Dental Clinic in Mwanjari, Kabale, said Modern Dental Clinic now attends to more than 40 patients every week, reflecting the growing demand for professional dental services in the region.
With years of experience in dentistry, Dr. Kukundakwe is among the senior dental consultants serving the Kigezi region. His new clinic offers a wide range of dental services, including oral health education, dental consultations, tooth extraction, scaling and polishing, tooth fillings (cementing), dentures, crowns and bridges, root canal treatment, inter-maxillary fixation, splinting, tooth whitening, home dental care, and children’s dentistry.
He encouraged the public to make routine dental check-ups a priority, noting that prevention and early treatment remain the most effective ways to maintain healthy teeth and reduce the cost of treating advanced dental diseases.
