Rt REv Callist Rubaramira -Bishop Kabale Diocese officially re-opens Our lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral following two months of Renovation

KABALE — Joy and spiritual renewal marked Palm Sunday celebrations in Kabale as Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral officially reopened after two months of renovation.

‎The reopening ceremony was led by the Bishop of Kabale Diocese Rt Rev Callist Rubaramira, who returned from Rome where he joined fellow Catholic bishops under the Uganda Episcopal Conference for the “ad limina apostolorum” visit — a significant pilgrimage that strengthens the Church’s unity and mission.

‎Delivering the main homily, Rev Fr Placid Mugumya, the secretary to the Bishop called on Christians to find deeper meaning in suffering. He explained  that hardship should draw believers closer to Christ rather than weaken their faith.

‎“Suffering should help us become deeply rooted in Christ’s love,” he said, urging the faithful to recognize their need for God even in moments of doubt. He noted that while some may feel abandoned during difficult times, such moments should instead strengthen trust in God’s plan.

‎Fr Mugumya further encouraged Christians to use the Holy Week ahead as a time of reflection on the suffering of Jesus Christ, reminding them that trials often lead to eventual victory and success.

‎Meanwhile, earlier in the day, Rev Fr Kenneth Birungi  , THE Vice Rector St Paul’s Seminary Kabale addressed pupils and staff of Bishop Asili Memorial Nursery and Primary School in Kirigime Kabale Municipality . His message centered on humility as a foundation for success.

‎“Humility, humility, and humility is the way to success,” he stressed, encouraging both learners and teachers to remain determined and committed to self-sacrifice.

‎Fr Birungi added that God prepares every individual for a greater purpose, reminding the congregation that suffering is temporary. Drawing from the example of Jesus Christ, he noted that although Christ endured pain, He ultimately triumphed.

‎The day’s celebrations blended joy, reflection, and renewed faith, as the faithful not only welcomed back their cathedral but also embraced the deeper spiritual message of perseverance, humility, and hope in the face of life’s challenges.
