23-Year-Old University Student Arrested for Impersonation in UACE Exams — Rukungiri
Authorities in Rukungiri District have arrested a 23-year-old woman for allegedly impersonating a candidate during the ongoing Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations.
The suspect, identified as Cleophas Mbamanyire, a student at Kampala University Luwero Campus pursuing a Bachelor of Arts with Education, was found sitting for the UACE General Paper on behalf of a registered candidate, Akampurira Brenda, at Bugangari Secondary School.
According to police, the incident occurred on the morning of 13th December 2025 at around 11:00am when the chief invigilator, Masiko Ambrose, raised suspicions and alerted security. His intelligence tip-off prompted immediate action from officers assigned to oversee the UNEB center.
“The suspect was found writing the exam for another person, which is a serious form of examination malpractice. We swiftly responded and arrested her,” ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed.
He added that police have since recorded statements from key witnesses and collected essential evidence.
“Statements have been obtained from relevant witnesses and important documents retrieved from the school and the examination materials to aid the investigation,” Maate noted.
Mbamanyire, a resident of Ruhabo 2A Cell, Rutunguru Parish, Ihunga Sub-county, Ntungamo District, is currently in custody as inquiries continue.
ASP Maate emphasized that the police remain committed to safeguarding the integrity of national examinations and warned the public against attempting to compromise the process.
“Inquiries at hand,” he stated, confirming that further details will be provided as the investigation progresses.
