Sentaro Byamugisha Retains Kabale Municipality Mayoral Seat
Sentaro Byamugisha has been declared the winner of the Kabale Municipality mayoral race after defeating three contenders in a closely contested election.
According to official results announced at 10:30 pm by the District Returning Officer, Ms. Aisha Nansubuga, at Rukiiko Hall in Kabale Municipality, Byamugisha polled 8,270 votes. He beat the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate, Sam Arinaitwe, who came second with 5,292 votes.
Other candidates in the race included Independent contender Ian Ronald Byamugisha, who garnered 203 votes, and Monday Everist Mugisha of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), who received 94 votes.
Byamugisha, the incumbent mayor who has been in office since 2016, described his re-election as a renewed mandate from the people of Kabale Municipality. He said the victory marks a new chapter for the municipality, which he acknowledged has experienced political divisions in the past.
“I want to be a mayor for all people. Kabale Municipality needs unity if we are to achieve meaningful development,” Byamugisha said, pledging to serve residents irrespective of their political affiliation.
He outlined improving household incomes and lifting residents out of poverty as his top priority in the new term. Byamugisha revealed plans to engage President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to discuss initiatives aimed at boosting household incomes and securing government support for economic empowerment programs within the municipality.
Byamugisha also thanked voters for their confidence in his leadership, noting that the results reflect trust in his experience and vision for Kabale Municipality. He called for cooperation among political leaders, civil servants, and residents to drive development and improve service delivery.
The peaceful conduct of the election was praised by electoral officials, who said voter turnout was encouraging despite the tight race. With his re-election, Byamugisha now begins another term at the helm of Kabale Municipality, facing the task of uniting the community and delivering on his development promises.
