PLE Results to be Released on Friday

The long-awaited Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) results for the 2025 cohort are set to be officially released on Friday, January 30, 2026, the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has announced. The unveiling will take place at 11:00 am at State Lodge, Nakasero, following approval from the Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataha Museveni.

UNEB spokesperson Ms. Jennifer Kalule said the date was agreed upon on Wednesday evening after a closed-door meeting with the minister, who also serves as Uganda’s First Lady. Stakeholders have been briefed ahead of the release, signalling a coordinated effort to ensure transparency and public confidence in the national examination system.

The announcement comes amid speculation that a temporary internet shutdown during the national general elections could delay the release timeline. UNEB has firmly refuted these concerns, clarifying that the marking, verification and quality assurance processes were completed as planned and were not disrupted by the outage.

A total of 818,010 candidates sat for the 2025 PLE, representing a 2.5 per cent increase from the 797,444 candidates who registered in 2024. Of those candidates, 428,398 were girls and 389,589 were boys, highlighting continued growth in participation across the country.

Last year’s PLE results were released on January 23, 2025, about a week earlier than the scheduled date for this year’s release, according to official records.

Under the Ministry of Education’s calendar, the reporting date for students progressing into Senior One has been set for February 16, giving families and schools just over two weeks to plan for the transition once results are published.

As pupils and parents await Friday’s announcement, UNEB has emphasised that proper procedures have been followed to ensure integrity and fairness in the examination and results release process.
