Witchdoctor Arrested as Security Forces Destroy Opium Plantation in Koboko
Koboko District – A joint security operation involving the Uganda Police Force, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), and the Koboko District LC5 leadership has destroyed nearly half a quarter of an opium plantation in Morodu and Monga villages, Ludara Sub-county.
The intelligence-led operation also resulted in the arrest of two suspects, including a witchdoctor believed to be one of the masterminds behind the illegal cultivation of opium and the recruitment of young people into the illicit trade.
Koboko District LC5 Chairperson Mambo Ashiraf said the operation was primarily aimed at apprehending the witchdoctor, who is accused of carrying out illegal activities and allegedly using traditional practices that have caused fear among residents.
Police said the consumption of the harmful products has contributed to a rise in crime across the district. Authorities added that they are pursuing other suspects who fled the villages with already processed narcotic products before the security operation.
Security agencies have warned the public against engaging in the cultivation, processing, and trafficking of illegal drugs, saying operations to eliminate the vice will continue across the district.
