RDC Katamba Urges Christians to Embrace Government Programs as Nyakijumba Church Raises Funds
The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Kabale, Major Katamba Godfrey, has called upon Christians to actively embrace government poverty alleviation programs in order to improve their livelihoods and uplift their families.
Major Katamba made the remarks on Sunday at St Peter’s Catholic Church Nyakijumba in Kyanamira Sub-county during a thanksgiving mass and a fundraising launch aimed at completing the church building, which is currently under construction.
He emphasized that government initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga are designed to benefit all Ugandans, urging believers to take advantage of these programs to start and expand income-generating projects.
“These programs are meant for everyone. Use them wisely to transform your households and come out of poverty,” he said.
The church leadership revealed that about Shs 200 million is needed to complete the construction of St Peter’s Catholic Church Nyakijumba. During the fundraising launch, over Shs 5 million was collected from well-wishers and members of the congregation.

The mass was led by Monsignor Silverio Twinomugisha, who encouraged Christians to embrace hard work, noting that even God worked. In his homily, he also called on the faithful to pray for the soul of the late Rev. Fr. Dr. Silvester Arinaitwe Rwomukubwe, former secretary of the Uganda Joint Christian Council (UJCC), who passed away last week in Jinja.
Monsignor Twinomugisha described the late Fr. Arinaitwe as a generous servant of God who supported many families, particularly in Kyanamira Sub-county, through school fees assistance and financial aid.
Fr. Arinaitwe hailed from Rubira Village in Kyanamira Sub-county within Kabale Diocese.
The thanksgiving mass also featured Alex Ahumuza, a staff member of Nation Media Group, who expressed gratitude to God as he celebrated personal milestones, including the baptism of his child. In his remarks, Ahumuza urged Christians not to forget God’s role in their lives.
“Many people grow and prosper but forget to thank God. He is a God of great levels and deserves our gratitude,” he said.
The event was marked by strong messages of faith, unity, and self-reliance, leaving a lasting impact on the congregation.
