Priest Warns on Rising Youth Drug Abuse, Calls for Prayer and Strong Parenting
KABALE — Rev. Fr. Balthazard Buhalagarha Grace has raised alarm over the increasing abuse of alcohol and marijuana among young people, calling on both Christians and parents to take urgent action.
Speaking during the Easter Vigil mass at St. Francis Catholic Parish, Fr. Buhalagarha said many youths are falling into destructive habits that are affecting their future and moral wellbeing.
“We must pray for our young people who are being destroyed by these vices,” he said, emphasizing that spiritual support is key in helping them overcome addiction and regain direction in life.
He urged parents not to neglect their role in shaping the character of their children, noting that good upbringing and strong Christian values are essential in curbing immoral behavior. “Parents must take responsibility to guide their children and teach them discipline and faith,” he added.
Fr. Buhalagarha, who hails from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, also called on Christians to pray for peace in conflict-affected nations, including Democratic Republic of the Congo, Iran, and Israel.
He said the resurrection of Jesus Christ should serve as a reminder for those involved in violence to change their hearts. “The risen Lord should touch those who are killing innocent people so they may embrace brotherhood and peace,” he said.
The priest’s message comes at a time when concerns over youth behavior and global instability continue to grow, with religious leaders increasingly using platforms like Easter celebrations to call for moral renewal and unity.
