NUP’s Tukamushaba Decries Disrupted Besigye Prayer as Court Adjourns Her Case to March 7
The Kabale Chief Magistrate’s Court has adjourned the case against Jacklyn Jolly Tukamushaba, the Western Uganda vice president of the National Unity Platform (NUP), to March 7, 2026.
Tukamushaba appeared at court at around noon, shortly after the day’s proceedings had already been concluded by Chief Magistrate
.Earlier, the magistrate had issued criminal summons after she failed to appear in court as required under her bail conditions. Tukamushaba is facing charges of allegedly inciting violence against supporters of the ruling (NRM), allegations she denies.
Her lawyer, Innocent Muhereza of Elgon Advocates, told court that the delay was due to medical reasons and travel from Kampala, where she had reportedly gone for treatment.
Court officials subsequently rescheduled the matter to March 7, when Tukamushaba is expected to appear and proceed with the hearing. She maintains that she did not incite any violence.
Speaking to journalists after the court appearance, Tukamushaba also expressed disappointment over the disruption of a prayer mass at that had been organized for opposition leader .
She said the large number of faithful who turned up for the prayers demonstrated strong public faith and surprised many. “As a Catholic, I believe strongly in the Holy Mass and the power of prayer,” Tukamushaba said, adding that she remains hopeful that God will one day answer the prayers of the people.
She further alleged that the prayer gathering was halted following intervention by President Museveni , but emphasized that despite such challenges, faith remains strong and God will ultimately hear His people.
