RUBANDA – Leaders in Rubanda District have been urged to prioritize accountability, transparency, and efficient service delivery following the swearing-in of newly elected district councillors and LCV Chairperson Stephen Kasyaba at the district headquarters on Friday.

Speaking during the ceremony, the Minister of State for Finance (General Duties), Hon. Henry Musasizi, challenged local leaders to protect public resources and ensure fairness in government operations, warning against misuse of office and corruption in district institutions.

Musasizi expressed concern over growing complaints from residents regarding irregularities in public recruitment and procurement processes, saying such practices continue to undermine public trust in government institutions.

He cautioned officials against manipulating recruitment exercises and emphasized that public positions should only be awarded to qualified candidates through transparent procedures.

The minister also condemned cases where job seekers are allegedly extorted by unscrupulous individuals promising government employment opportunities. He said authorities would intensify monitoring of recruitment systems to ensure integrity and accountability.

On procurement, Musasizi criticized the repeated awarding of contracts to companies accused of poor performance, warning district leaders against approving substandard work that affects service delivery.

“We must ensure value for money in all government programs and projects. Leaders have a duty to protect public resources and serve the interests of wananchi,” he said.

Rubanda West County MP Hon. Bruce Kabaasa Balaba used the occasion to call for reforms in Uganda’s education sector, noting that school dropout rates remain high despite government interventions.

He argued that the current primary education structure still faces challenges in adequately preparing learners for higher levels of education and future employment opportunities.

Meanwhile, Rubanda District Woman MP Hon. Evelyne Ninsiima Kikafunda pledged cooperation among leaders to advance development projects and improve livelihoods in the district.

She commended residents for supporting leaders focused on unity, peace, and development, urging politicians to avoid divisive politics that could slow progress in the district.
