Rushoroza, Kabale — During the Sunday morning Mass at Our Lady of Good Shepherd Cathedral, Rev. Fr. Christmas Austen, the Parish Priest of Rushoroza, delivered a powerful homily calling on Christians to embrace humility as the foundation of their spiritual life.

Fr. Austen reminded the congregation that “the prayer of a humble person pierces the heart of God and heaven.” He emphasized that humility is not a sign of weakness but rather a reflection of true faith and dependence on God.

“We Christians from Rushoroza should value humility,” he said. “God is always by the side of the humble, the orphans, widows, and widowers. Even in times of tragedy and loss, we must remember that God never abandons us.”

Drawing from Proverbs 19:17, Fr. Austen reminded the faithful that “He who helps the poor is lending to the Lord,” urging Christians to live lives of generosity and compassion. He also cautioned against judging others, noting that “we are all sinners before God.”

The priest called on Rushoroza Parish to be a model of love, unity, and hospitality in the community.

“Our parish should always be a home for all people, regardless of their professions — doctors, farmers, lawyers, and others,” he said. “Let our homes and hearts be places that welcome everyone with love.”

In the same Mass, Ms. Ahabwe Justine, a Christian from Nyakiharo in Mwanjari, stood to give a heartfelt testimony of thanksgiving. She praised God for the gift of life, health, and divine protection after surviving a road accident.

“With God, we are assured of protection,” she said. “Prayer is the most effective way to communicate with Him.”

Her testimony echoed Fr. Austen’s message, reinforcing the call to constant prayer and humble faith.

As the Mass concluded, the faithful left inspired — reminded that in humility, love, and prayer, they find the true essence of Christian life and community.
