Fr. Buregyeya Says Jesus the Good Shepherd Kiniogo Remains Open to Pilgrims
KABALE — Rev. Fr. Young Buregyeya, the Parish Priest of Sacred Heart Rushoroza Parish–Kihiihi in Kanungu District and former Spiritual Director of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal (CCR) in Kabale Diocese, has clarified that the Jesus the Good Shepherd Prayer Centre at Kiniogo remains open to Christians, dismissing claims that it was completely closed by the diocese.
Fr. Buregyeya made the remarks while preaching during a three-day Healing and Deliverance Retreat at Jesus the Good Shepherd Prayer Centre, Kiniogo, which began on Thursday. The retreat is being led by Fr. Buregyeya alongside Rev. Fr. Boniface Barisigara, the current Spiritual Director of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in Kabale Diocese.
Addressing hundreds of faithful, Fr. Buregyeya explained that the Kabale Diocese only suspended the regular Tuesday gatherings at the prayer centre, while Christians are still free to visit on other days for prayer, counseling, and spiritual guidance.
”The prayer centre is open. Only the Tuesday gatherings were halted by the diocese. On other days, Christians are welcome to come for prayer and counseling,” he said.
Fr. Young encouraged Catholics to remain steadfast in the Catholic faith, describing the Catholic Church as the Mother Church. He also emphasized that Jesus Christ is truly and physically present in the Holy Eucharist, a belief that is central to Catholic teaching.
Fr. Buregyeya further explained that Christians should trengthen their faith in Jesus Christ rather than placing excessive dependence on individual priests.
”People should focus on Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd, and not on personalities. Priests are servants of God who can be transferred at any time according to the needs of the Church,” he said.
Reflecting on his transfer to Sacred Heart Rushoroza Parish in Kihiihi, Fr. Buregyeya described it as part of God’s plan and said he was grateful for his new pastoral assignment.
“Fr. Buregyeya further told the faithful that, in his belief, the Catholic Church was founded by Jesus Christ and encouraged Christians to remain steadfast in their faith despite challenges.
”The Lord remains our protector, and nothing will stop me from serving Him and His people,” Fr. Buregyeya said.
The retreat attracted hundreds of Christians from different parts of Kabale Diocese and neighboring areas, who gathered for prayer, healing, and spiritual renewal.
