Father John Baptist Bashobora, the Spiritaual Director for Catholic Charismatic Renewal for Mbarara Archdiocese  has appealed to Ugandans to elect leaders with integrity, influence, and the capacity to transform communities, citing the Minister of state for finance in charge of General Duties ,  as an example of leadership that has strengthened national planning and economic stability.

Speaking to thousands of Christians gathered for the four-day Kabale Diocese Catholic Charismatic Conference at Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral, the Father Bashobora explained that political leaders carry a divine and civic responsibility to uplift the nation.

“We need leaders who influence development, leaders who understand planning, and leaders who work for the people,” Fr Bashobora  said. “Do not vote for anyone simply because they give you money. Vote for genuine, developmental leaders who will take this country forward.”

The annual conference, which began on Thursday and concluded on Sunday with a solemn Holy Mass, attracted believers from across Uganda.

The Priest  also urged current leaders to recognize their role in promoting national development through effective representation.

“Those elected must know that their positions are not for show,” he added. “They are meant to serve the people and to build the country morally, socially, and economically.”

Minister Henry Musasizi , who attended the prayer gathering accompanied by several MPs and district leaders, shared a personal testimony of how the Father Bashobora prayed for  him years ago at university.

“I met Fr Bashobora when I was enrolling for my first degree,” the minister recalled. “I had financial challenges, and he prayed for me. Since then, my pockets have never run dry. God has been faithful.”

Minister Musasizi further stressed that  the government is recommended worldwide  for maintaining stability and freedom of worship.

“I thank the NRM government for the peace we enjoy today,” he said. “People can pray freely, gather freely, and worship without fear because there is security.”

The conference was attended by several prominent leaders, including Niwagaba Wilfred, the Ndorwa East MP; Catherine Ndamira, Kabale District Woman MP; Dr. Nicholas Kamara, Kabale Municipality MP; and various district and community leaders.

Through prayers, testimonies, and messages of hope, the conference emphasized unity, faith, and the need for responsible leadership at all levels of society.
