Christians have been called upon to live repentant lives and renew their trust in God as a way of strengthening their faith and avoiding actions that distance them from Christ.

Delivering his homily during morning Mass at St Francis of Assisi Kyanamira Parish, Rev  Fr Alex Akankwasa, a missionary with the Missionaries of Africa, explained  the importance of repentance, reminding believers that their daily actions should reflect their commitment to Christ.

Fr Akankwasa urged Christians to recognize God’s authority over their lives, noting that God continually guides humanity on the right path. He encouraged the faithful to place their full trust in God, who, he said, does not abandon His people but instead draws them closer into His love.

“For God cannot allow us to perish, for He desires that we remain in His love,” he said.

Reflecting on the resurrection of Jesus, the priest reminded the congregation of Christ’s message of peace to His disciples. He stressed that Jesus came to save humanity and continues to walk with believers through life’s journey.

Fr Akankwasa challenged Christians to examine their faith, asking whether they truly follow Christ in both word and action. He encouraged them to become a source of light to others, living in a way that inspires hope and reflects Christian values.

He further reminded the faithful that life on earth is temporary, describing human beings as “passersby” whose ultimate home is with God.

Addressing the hardships people face, Fr Akankwasa urged believers not to lose hope amid suffering. He reassured them that Jesus Christ listens, speaks to them, and remains present in their daily struggles.

“We often forget that Christ is with us when we go through challenges,” he said, encouraging deeper reflection and prayer as a way to strengthen awareness of God’s presence.

St Francis of Assisi Kyanamira Parish is one of the newest parishes in the Kabale Diocese. Officially inaugurated on August 10, 2025, it became the 42nd parish in the diocese after being carved from Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral Parish. The parish is currently entrusted to the Missionaries of Africa.
