St. Gertrude’s Girls’ Vocational Secondary School has steadily expanded over the years and now faces increasing demand for space to accommodate more learners.
Reverend Father Christmas Austen, Chairperson of the Board at St. Gertrude’s Girls’ Vocational Secondary School, has called on Christians and well-wishers to embrace the spirit of giving to support community development, particularly in education.
Delivering his homily on Saturday during a fundraising event at the school, Fr. Austen drew inspiration from the Bible, recalling how King David rallied his people to contribute generously toward the construction of the temple of God. He noted that the people responded wholeheartedly, setting an example of unity and sacrifice that remains relevant today.
“Just as the people of Israel gave willingly for the house of the Lord, we too are called to give generously for causes that uplift our communities,” he said.
The fundraising event was organized to support the construction of a modern two-storey classroom block aimed at addressing the school’s growing enrollment. Established in 1981, St. Gertrude’s Girls’ Vocational Secondary School has steadily expanded over the years and now faces increasing demand for space to accommodate more learners.

The Headteacher Sr. Flavia Ainembabazi stressed that the new facility will not only ease congestion but also improve the learning environment and enhance academic performance.
The event attracted several distinguished guests, including the Chief Guest, His Lordship Dr. Flavian Zeija, the Chief Justice, who was accompanied by the Judiciary Permanent Secretary, Dr. Pius Bigirimana.

The fundraiser marked a significant step toward realizing the school’s vision of expanding its infrastructure and continuing its mission of empowering young women through education.
