Eight Inmates from Ndorwa Government Prison Sit for PLE at Kikungiri Primary School
Eight male inmates from Ndorwa Government Prison in Kabale Municipality are among 90 candidates sitting for this year’s Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) at Kikungiri Primary School.
The school’s Headteacher, Phabis Twasingwire, said 91 candidates had registered for the examinations, but one did not turn up, leaving 90 candidates to sit the national examinations.
Twasingwire revealed that the eight inmates are part of the candidates, adding that this is the fourth time inmates from Ndorwa Government Prison have been given an opportunity to sit for the national examinations.
She noted that the inmates have been performing well in previous examinations, expressing confidence in their continued participation in the national education system.
The participation of the inmates highlights the role of education in rehabilitation and providing opportunities for people in correctional facilities to pursue academic qualifications.
