Kabale Diocese has begun preparations for the ordination of its newly appointed bishop, the Rt. Rev. Dr. Bonaventure Gubazire, who will succeed the Rt. Rev. Callist Rubaramira following his retirement.

‎His appointment was made public on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral Parish in Kabale by Rev. Fr. Georges Kwami Kouwonou, Chargé d’Affaires at the Nunciature in Kampala, Uganda.

‎Before his appointment, Bishop Gubazire served in Ghana as Rector of St. Martin Seminary for the Missionaries of Africa. His experience in church leadership is expected to help him effectively guide the faithful of Kabale Diocese.

‎The preparations for his ordination were announced by the Vicar General of Kabale Diocese, Dr. Vianny Sunday, while celebrating Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Kyanamira Parish on Saturday, during celebrations to mark one year since the parish was established.

‎Dr. Vianny Sunday said the diocese has started preparations for the ordination ceremony and called upon Christians to actively participate in making the event a success.

‎Rev. Fr. Clement Koffi Manzamesso Kpatcha, the Provincial Delegate of the Missionaries of Africa in Uganda, said the congregation is working closely with Kabale Diocese to ensure that the installation ceremony is colourful and successful.

‎Fr. Kpatcha, who belongs to the same congregation as Bishop Gubazire, said the newly appointed bishop has extensive leadership experience and expressed confidence that he will provide strong leadership to the people of God.

‎Meanwhile, Katooma Kayogoza Timothy called upon Bishop Gubazire to work closely with other leaders in the Kigezi sub-region to fight religious sectarianism and promote unity among people of different faiths.

‎Joshua Musinguzi, an LCC councillor representing Kyanamira, said the new bishop is expected to be a unifying factor, particularly at a time when Kabale Diocese is facing various challenges.

‎Bishop Gubazire is scheduled to be ordained a bishop on October 3, 2026, in a ceremony expected to bring together religious, political and community leaders. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to be the chief guest.

‎The faithful of Kabale Diocese and members of the Missionaries of Africa are now working together to prepare for the historic occasion, which will formally mark the beginning of Bishop Gubazire’s leadership of the diocese.

‎Ends
