Kigata High School Old Students Donate 120 Desks, Pledge 400 by Year-End

Kigata

Kabale — Kigata High School Old Students Association has donated 120 desks to their former school as part of an ambitious drive to improve learning conditions, with a commitment to deliver a total of 400 desks before the end of the year.

‎Speaking during the handover ceremony on Saturday at Kigata High School in Kigata Parish, Kyanamira Sub-county, Kabale District, the association’s chairperson, Syson Mwebaze, said the contribution reflects the alumni’s commitment to giving back to the institution that shaped their lives.

‎”We have today delivered 120 desks, and our target is to provide a total of 400 desks by the end of this year. This is part of our continued effort to improve the learning environment for current students,” Mwebaze said.

‎He noted that the alumni have over the years mobilized resources to support the school’s development, including donating more than 200 bags of cement for the construction of a staff house, supplying iron sheets to roof the building, and providing scholarships to bright but financially disadvantaged students.

‎”Our support has not started today. We have contributed over 200 bags of cement towards the completion of the staff house, provided iron sheets for roofing, and continue to sponsor bright students who cannot afford school fees,” he said.

‎Mwebaze said the association is determined to restore Kigata High School to its former glory as one of the region’s leading academic institutions.

‎”Our vision is to improve the standards of Kigata High School so that it regains its historical status as one of the best schools in the region. As the school marks 40 years of existence, we believe every old student has a responsibility to contribute to its transformation.”

‎He also appealed to alumni of other schools across the country to support the institutions that nurtured them.

‎”I encourage old students everywhere to remember the schools that shaped them. We should not watch our former schools deteriorate when we have the capacity to make a difference.”

‎The Head Teacher, Richard Byembabazi, commended the old students for their unwavering support, describing them as reliable development partners.

‎”Since I reported here in 2018, the old students have consistently supported the school. They have paid school fees for bright but needy students, contributed to infrastructure development, and have now donated desks to improve learning,” Byembabazi said.

‎He revealed that the alumni have also pledged to construct a fully functional science laboratory and increase the number of computers at the school.

‎”They have promised to build a functional laboratory and provide more computers, which will greatly improve science education and digital learning at the school,” he added.

‎Byembabazi said the school currently has an enrollment of 561 students, with numbers increasing every year, creating a need for additional facilities.

‎”Our enrollment now stands at 561 students, and it continues to grow annually. We still need more classrooms and staff accommodation to adequately serve both learners and teachers.”

‎He thanked the Government for supporting the school through the construction of a laboratory, two classrooms, a toilet block, and the provision of textbooks, while appealing for additional support to meet the school’s growing needs.

‎The Chairperson of the Students’ Council, Timothy Agaba, expressed gratitude to the alumni, saying their generosity inspires learners to work hard and emulate their achievements.

‎”The old students motivate us to dream bigger and work harder so that one day we can also give back to our school. We are grateful for this support,” Agaba said.

‎He noted that the shortage of desks had made it difficult for students whenever school functions were held.

‎”Whenever we had activities in the main hall, we had to carry desks from classrooms, which disrupted lessons. The new desks will make our work much easier and reduce unnecessary interruptions.”

‎Located in Kigata Parish, Kyanamira Sub-county in Kabale District, Kigata High School has been in existence for 40 years and continues to register steady improvement in both academic performance and co-curricular activities. The latest contribution by its old students is expected to further strengthen efforts to improve infrastructure and create a better learning environment for the growing student population
