Hanging or Homicide? Rukiga Woman’s Death Sparks Murder Probe
Police in Rukiga District are investigating the mysterious and disturbing death of a 43-year-old woman whose body was discovered hanging in her home, in what investigators now suspect could be a cleverly disguised murder.
The deceased, Oliver Mbabazi, a housewife and resident of Rwongora Cell, Kitojo Parish, Rwamucucu Sub-county, was last seen alive on 6 December 2025 at around 2:00 pm while at home with her two-month-old baby. But on the evening of 7 December 2025, at approximately 7:00 pm, her lifeless body was found suspended from a piece of cloth (lesu) inside her house.
What initially appeared to be a suicide took a chilling turn when police detectives discovered a deep stab wound on her neck, suggesting that Mbabazi may have been murdered and her body staged to mimic suicide.
According to Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, the scene was immediately cordoned off and thoroughly examined. Crime scene officers documented evidence and recorded statements from witnesses. A police canine was also deployed and reportedly led investigators to a suspect, who is now in custody pending extensive questioning.
In a further breakthrough, police recovered a knife with suspected blood stains outside the compound, which is being treated as a possible murder weapon.
Mbabazi’s body has been transported to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination to determine the precise cause of death.
“Inquiries have commenced,” ASP Maate said, adding that the police are committed to unraveling the truth behind the suspicious death.
