The Senior Presidential Advisor on Agriculture, Peace Rugambwa, has called on religious leaders to remain united and speak with one voice as the country approaches the forthcoming general elections. She explained that unity among faith leaders is essential in guiding communities towards peace and development.

Rugambwa made the remarks on Sunday during the Bishop Annual Appeals Fund -BAAF fundraising event at Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral grounds in Kabale. The event raised 132,789,800 UGX and 100 bags of cement to support the installation of terrazzo flooring aimed at beautifying the cathedral.

Speaking at the function, Rugambwa assured the congregation that she would engage the President to increase agricultural support in the Kigezi region, particularly in Kabale District where land scarcity and reduced soil productivity have become major challenges.

She noted that the government is committed to promoting modern farming techniques and improving soil fertility.

“We shall work to ensure that farmers receive fertilizers and training on better methods of farming so that even the small land available becomes productive,” she said.

During the same event, the Vicar General of Kabale Diocese, Msgr. Dr. John Vianney Sunday, who led the Mass, reminded Christians of their responsibility to support the development of the Church.

“The Church does not beg. We promote development that benefits every believer spiritually and physically. A beautiful place of worship strengthens our connection with God,” he preached.

He commended the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Christmas Austen, for spearheading the BAAF mobilization efforts and also thanked parishioners for their continued commitment towards church projects.

Meanwhile, Rev. Fr. Austen noted that the renovation works would commence in early January. He explained that the cathedral is expected to host major diocesan activities in November and December, including the long-awaited Conference of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, to be led by Fr. Young Buregyeya and Rev. Fr. John Baptist Bashobora.

He encouraged Christians to remain supportive and proud of the developments taking place within the parish, saying such efforts reflect a vibrant and growing faith community.
