Ntungamo, Uganda — The Common Man’s Party presidential candidate, Mubarak Munyagwa, has called on the government to urgently investigate the ongoing Baraaro land saga in Northern Uganda, following President Yoweri Museveni’s directive banning Baraaro pastoralists from the region.

Addressing journalists at NM Motel in Rubaale, Ntungamo District, on Sunday, Munyagwa condemned what he described as a deliberate campaign of misinformation allegedly orchestrated by “mafias” within State House, who, he claimed, deceived the President into believing that pastoralists were illegally grabbing land from locals.

“The government must investigate this issue thoroughly. These actions are not only unjust but risk sowing seeds of disunity among Ugandans,” Munyagwa said. “Every citizen has the constitutional right to live and work wherever they choose in this country. No one should be forced out because of lies and selfish interests.”

The outspoken opposition politician revealed that over 150 people, many of them farmers from Ntungamo, who had legally purchased land in Northern Uganda, have been affected by the ban and subsequent evictions.

He accused a clique of powerful individuals of manipulating the situation for personal gain while innocent Ugandans suffer.

“The real culprits behind these land conflicts are the same people benefiting from the confusion,” Munyagwa asserted.

Munyagwa, who is currently on his Kigezi and Ankole campaign trail, had traveled from Rukiga and Kabale districts before addressing the media in Ntungamo. He is expected to head to Rukungiri District today and conclude his regional tour in Bushenyi tomorrow.

The former Kawempe South MP urged leaders at all levels to promote peace, unity, and equal rights, warning that any attempt to divide citizens along ethnic or regional lines would undermine national harmony and development.

He further appealed to President Museveni to personally review the matter and ensure that those responsible for misleading the government and displacing innocent citizens are held accountable.
