Police on Friday evening returned three key suspects linked to the murder of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Bagenda to the scene of the crime as part of ongoing investigations. The reconstruction exercise aimed at establishing the sequence of events that led to the fatal shooting of the officer who was serving as the Officer-in-Charge of Ntawo Police Station.

According to police sources, the suspects are believed to have masterminded a series of violent raids in Lwanyonyi village and the neighboring Kiwala area. The gang allegedly targeted local businesses, including retail shops and mobile money outlets, leaving a trail of fear among residents.

Investigators revealed that security operatives intercepted the suspects in Ntawo following intelligence reports about their movements. This interception triggered a fierce exchange of gunfire between the suspects and police officers. During the shootout, a police corporal sustained serious injuries, while ASP Bagenda was fatally shot.

ASP Bagenda met his death on November 24 last year while responding to a tip-off indicating that armed robbers were planning to use his jurisdiction as an escape route after carrying out criminal activities. His death sent shockwaves through the police force and the communities he served, where he was widely regarded as a committed and courageous officer.

Police further linked the suspects to several other violent crimes in the region, including the killing of a prominent Rotarian and education proprietor in Nabuti. Authorities believe the gang has been behind a string of coordinated robberies and targeted attacks.

During the reconstruction exercise, tension briefly rose as angry residents gathered at the scene, demanding swift justice for the fallen officer and other victims. Some locals attempted to attack the suspects, calling for mob justice. However, security personnel maintained control of the situation and safely escorted the suspects away.

Despite their anger, many residents expressed appreciation for the police efforts in apprehending the suspects. Community members urged law enforcement agencies to ensure thorough investigations and successful prosecution to deliver justice for ASP Bagenda and other victims linked to the suspects’ alleged crimes.
