KAMPALA – The Electoral Commission (EC) has condemned recent violent incidents during election campaigns, warning candidates and supporters to desist from violence and hate speech.

“Such incidents clearly do not add value to our democratic dispensation,” said Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission.

The warning comes after a violent episode on November 28, 2025, resulted in one death and several injuries. The EC has called for investigations to establish the root causes and hold perpetrators accountable.

“We reiterate our call on all stakeholders to conduct themselves peacefully and within the law during this campaign period and beyond,” Justice Simon said.

The EC has urged candidates, agents, and supporters to avoid sectarian language that incites violence and hatred. Law enforcement agencies have been directed to ensure compliance with electoral laws and guidelines.

With over 83,000 candidates contesting for 45,000 elective positions, the EC emphasizes the need for peaceful campaigns.

“We call on all stakeholders to work together to ensure a peaceful and credible election,” Justice Simon said.
