Calvary Hill Becomes a Center of Healing and Spiritual Renewal in Western Uganda
Calvary Hill in Rwampara District has quickly grown into one of the most visited Christian prayer centers in Western Uganda, attracting thousands of believers from different parts of the country and beyond. Many pilgrims say they visit the hill to seek healing, peace, and spiritual renewal.
Located in Mirama village, Rugando Subcounty, the prayer center was established in 2017 as part of Yesu Ahuriire Spiritual Renewal Centre under Mbarara Archdiocese. The hill welcomes people from all Christian denominations.
According to Rev. Fr. Alexander Mwebembezi, prayers are held every First Friday and Third Saturday of the month. On these days, crowds climb the hill to pray, worship, and reflect at the foot of the Cross. He said the hill is open for private prayer every day from 7:00am to 7:00pm.
“Calvary Hill is a home for those seeking God’s love and healing. Anyone who comes here in faith does not leave the same,” Fr. Mwebembezi said.
Last Friday, another powerful prayer gathering was led by Rev. Fr. Vincent Kaboyi, who encouraged Christians to stay strong in faith despite challenges they face in their families and communities.
He preached that spiritual battles sometimes begin early in life, but God protects those who belong to Him.
“No one can destroy a person chosen by God. We are children of His Kingdom,” he told the congregation.
Fr. Kaboyi also asked the government to support modern farming in the Ankole region to boost food production.
Retired Lt. Moses Mushabe, the National Chairperson of the Veterans League, attended the prayer gathering and promised to advocate for President Museveni to visit the hill. He donated two Friesian cows to support the ministry and encouraged believers to continue supporting national development programs.
The hill has also become known for testimonies of healing. One believer, Catherine Atuheire, shared how she was healed from a sickness she had since childhood.
“God healed me here. I will always come back to thank Him,” she said.
Calvary Hill is now seen as a growing pilgrimage destination in Western Uganda, reducing the need for Christians to travel to other established prayer centers in Central Uganda.
With increasing numbers of visitors and testimonies of answered prayers, the hill continues to gain recognition as a place of faith, hope, and spiritual renewal.
