Mbarara–Ishaka Highway to Temporarily Close for Emergency Repairs on Friday
The Ministry of Works and Transport has announced a temporary closure of a section of the Mbarara–Ishaka road to allow for urgent maintenance works. The closure will take place on Friday, 7th November 2025, between 9:00 am and 12:00 am (midnight).
According to a public notice issued on 6th November 2025, the affected stretch will run from Km 3+500 at Ruharo to Km 3+900 near the Buffalo restaurant roundabout, with the repair activities focused around Km 3+700 at Woodland Gardens. The ministry explained that the works are critical to ensuring road safety and preventing further deterioration.
During the closure, motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Heavy trucks and buses will be diverted to the Mbarara by-pass via the Coca-Cola and Ruti roundabouts. Meanwhile, light vehicles are encouraged to use the Ntare–Kyamugurani road to reconnect with the main Mbarara–Ishaka highway.
The Ministry apologized for any inconvenience caused, emphasizing that the temporary disruption is necessary for long-term road reliability.
“We regret any inconvenience and appreciate your cooperation,” read the notice signed by Bagaya Waiswa, Permanent Secretary.
The Mbarara–Ishaka road is a major transit link for trade and travel across southwestern Uganda, making the scheduled maintenance works crucial for continued traffic flow and road safety.
