Several mourners, including politicians, church leaders, and Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) officials, gathered to pay their final respects to the late Col. (Rtd) Anthony Kyakabale, who was laid to rest at his ancestral home in Rushebeya, Rwamucucu Sub-county, Rukiga District.

In a message delivered by Maj. Gen. Ambrose Musinguzi on behalf of the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the CDF described the late Kyakabale as a hero who fought for his country with great patriotism and dedication. Gen. Muhoozi also contributed UGX 2 million towards the burial arrangements.

Maj. Gen. Musinguzi, speaking for the UPDF, hailed Col. Kyakabale as a selfless soldier who deeply loved his country, noting that the army mourns the loss of a man who played a significant role in the liberation struggle and later in efforts to restore peace in the region. He further acknowledged Kyakabale’s contribution to the liberation of Rwanda during the 1994 genocide.

Vitus Mogan, the son of the deceased, shared emotional reflections, revealing that his father had faced challenging times and misunderstandings with national leadership in the past. He appealed to those who wronged his father to seek forgiveness and reconciliation, and urged the government to allow Ugandans in exile to return home peacefully.

Ronnie, a close friend and neighbor currently residing in Sweden, described Col. Kyakabale as a kind-hearted and patriotic man, whose humility and love for others left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
